Step 1.
Prepare the subfloor: pull up any old carpet and underlay and make sure the floor is clean and free from any dust or debris. Install Carpet Gripper (the fitters used our Royale 30mm Extra Wide Dual Grippers) around all edges ready for the underlay and carpet as well as measuring up & marking spots for underlay installation.
Step 2.
Start laying the underlay out in the longest continuous lengths possible and cutting where needed. For pieces of underlay closest to the edge of the flooring, you can now start to neatly cut these up to the grippers.
Once the underlay is in the correct position, the next step is to roll the underlay half way back and apply the adhesive to the subfloor for the first part of the double stick process.
Tip: Always allow the adhesive to dry and become tacky before relaying the underlay, laying the underlay on wet adhesive will create a permanent bond. The carpet fitters from Carpet & Flooring studio used fans to speed up this process which is a great trick!
Step 3.
The next step is to use a glider to smooth out the underlay and ensure it is stuck down to the subfloor. Once this stage is complete, it’s time to tape the underlay joins, bringing the underlay installation process to an end ready to lay and fit the carpet.
Step 4.
Once the ToughStep has been successfully laid, it is time to apply the adhesive over the top to complete the double stick process ready to lay the carpet on top.
Step 5.
Once the fitters had applied adhesive to the top of the underlay, the last stage of the installation was for them to lay the carpet!
