Frequently Asked Installation Requirement Questions:

I haven’t reverse rolled the underlay – does it matter?

Reverse rolling isn’t strictly mandatory, and some installers choose to lay rolls in the same direction for visual consistency. However, for best results and to align with British Standard BS 5325, we recommend reverse rolling. It helps the underlay settle flat more quickly and ensures optimal long-term performance – which is why we advise it as part of the correct installation process.

I’ve used a different tape – is this okay?

Our Wilsons bonding tape has been specifically developed with a unique adhesive formula and a wider 60mm profile to work seamlessly with our underlay backings. While other tapes might appear to work, we can only guarantee product performance and honour warranty claims when our tape is used, as it’s the only one tested and approved to meet our specifications.

Can underlay still be laid in the same direction?

Some installers may prefer to lay rolls in the same direction for aesthetic reasons, and you may see this in some of our earlier installation photos. However, for best practice and to align with British Standard BS 5325, reverse rolling is recommended.
